This book attempts to document the leadership role of the youth at the grassroots level in India. Containing narratives of the volunteers, mostly youth, in serving the people in general and the poor in particular, it discusses at length how they struggled to achieve success in their war against corruption, gender inequality and social injustice.

Also, it deliberates on the Gandhian model of development, harmony and development, crisis management and the role of youth in strengthening the panchayats.

Author Bio:
Ganapathi Palanithurai, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences; Member Syndicate, Coordinator in Rajiv Gandhi Chair; Gandhigram Rural Institute; and Head, Department of Political Science and Development Administration, Gandhigram Rural University, Tamil Nadu, is an Academic activist working with the people in rural areas to reinvent sustainable Grassroots democracy. He is also associated in different capacities with the Planning Commission of India, State Planning Commission of Tamil Nadu, Population Foundation of India, Ford Foundation, UNICEF, Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, CAPART, Ministry of Rural Areas and Employment, and DANIDA.

Prof. Palanithurai has to his Credit thirty-two books, seventy-nine articles, twelve working papers, seven monographs and seven Review articles. He was a recipient of fellowship from Sastri Indo-Canadian Institute, New Delhi, and World Academy of Art and Science, USA. Also, he is a member of the Expert Committee, constituted by the Government of Tamil Nadu to monitor the training programme for local body leaders. He is Chairperson of The Hunger Project Council in Tamil Nadu as well.

M A Thirunavukkarasu is the Research Coordinator of the Rajiv Gandhi Chair for Panchayati Raj Studies, Gandhigram Rural Institute Gandhigram. He is an expert in micro-planning and he has facilitated the panchayat leaders to prepare micro-plan document for their respective panchayats. Also, he is associated with capacity building exercise for local body leaders and has assisted in evolving training module and manual for local body leaders' training.
