The Birhors are a little known forest tribe with small population inhabiting in mountain and forest areas of Chotanagpur region, particularly in Hazaribagh, Ranchi and Gumla district. Geographical study of the Birhor is important in two senses, firstly, to identify their habitation in the region, and secondly their social organization in spatial perspective. Since the work is positivist in nature, it seeks to develop hypotheses with the view to empirically develop theoretical structure about their life style. This aspect of human geography is not much developed in the country and there is a need for such work. The Birohis Of Chotanagpur District deals with the conceptual aspects which includes aims and objectives, overview of literature and hypothesis of the study. It concentrates on geographical background ofChotanagpur region, the Birhor economy and the Birhors settlement geography. The book also studies the demographic aspects of Birhors as well as the tribe's cultural aspects and pattern. The book also presents an empirical study of seven Birhor villages, and ends with a detailed conclusion, summarizing the main points of the study.
